Telling the Story of Transformation
KFMC was founded as The Kansas Foundation for Medical Care, Inc. in 1972 by the Kansas Medical Society to lead state health improvement initiatives. We expanded services in 1977 and 1984 to include quality improvement and utilization review, addressing inconsistencies in how healthcare is provided and leading health organizations through data-driven quality and performance improvement initiatives.
Over the years we’ve continued to grow our service offerings, impacting health across the patient journey in 2010 through integrating HIT, data standards and interoperability in physician practices and hospitals across Kansas. Through partnerships with the Great Plains Quality Innovation Network in 2014 and Health Quality Innovators in 2019, KFMC’s growth continued. Working closely with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) was instrumental in expanding our reach regionally and then nationally to support the spread of effective new practices and models of care.
While initially we served principally in the state of Kansas, we’ve since expanded our services from coast to coast. That’s why in 2021, we officially changed our name to KFMC and enhanced our vision and mission to reflect our role as health improvement partners across the nation.
