MRSA

Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) is becoming more prevalent in healthcare settings.    The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that more than 94,000 people developed a serious MRSA infection in 2005 and approximately 18,650 people died during a hospital stay as a result.

MRSA is a hospital initiative to target hospitals reporting to the CDCs National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN).  The goal is to have hospitals report MRSA to the NHSN Multi-Drug Resistant Organism (MDRO) module in an effort to reduce the infection and transmission rates of MRSA within the hospital.

KFMC is working with a select number of hospitals to address patient harm for which there is evidence of how to improve safety by improving healthcare processes and systems related to prevention, identification and treatment of MRSA within their organizations.
