HHQI National Campaign

In January 2007, the Kansas Foundation for Medical Care, Inc. and the Kansas Home Care Association (KHCA) joined resources to help in the implementation of an exciting venture that we felt would provide many opportunities for the home health agencies in Kansas.
Patients desire to stay at home whenever possible. Currently, more than one in four home health patient episodes will result in hospitalization. Being hospitalized can unnecessarily create financial and emotional burdens for patients and their families as well as negatively impacting the health care system.
Then National Home Health Quality Improvement Campaign sought to unite the home care community under the shared vision of improving patient quality of care by reducing avoidable hospitalizations. Participation in this one-year campaign was free and voluntary. In March 2009, all registered agencies began receiving monthly intervention packets that included educational tools, resources, and individual agency reports to assist with reducing avoidable hospitalizations.
KFMC and KHCA encouraged all home care agencies to take part in this quality improvement initiative. The monthly best practice intervention packages (BPIPs) are still available from the campaign website, www.homehealthquality.org.
