The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) Immunization Program was recently awarded four Prevention and Public Health capacity building grants through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases.
One of the four areas is to assess and develop strategic plans to support local health department billing of immunization services for privately insured clients. For the immunization billing project, our objectives include:
- Assessing local health department billing interest, capability and barriers.
- Estimating the potential return on investment.
- Expanding the capacity for local health departments to bill private insurers for immunization services.
- Expanding the funding base for local health department immunization delivery.
- Developing, testing, assessing, and refining a statewide strategic plan.
KDHE has contracted with the Kansas Foundation for Medical Care, Inc. (KFMC) to conduct the activities associated with the immunization billing project. For further details, contact Stephanie Lambert-Barth, Project Manager, at slambert@kfmc.org or (785) 271-4137.
In December 2011, KFMC convened a Kansas stakeholder group, comprised of State agency staff, local health departments, health insurance companies, and other interested organizations. This group will continue to meet quarterly to guide development and testing of the statewide strategic plan. Further information about the stakeholder group and its activities is provided in the links to the right.
